Public Meetings and Public Participation
Last year, Douglas County staff held three public presentations to share a summary of community statements as were expressed during eight community outreach meetings held in early 2011. Citizens were asked to review and refine the statements to help assure that they reflect the expressed community sentiment.
The following information was provided at the three public presentations:.
Overview and Summary [44KB]
DRAFT Community Values and Summary Statement [89KB]
Following these meetings, the summary will help guide citizens, staff and the Planning Commission to refine and revise community goals, values, and needs identified in the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan through the remainder of the Master Plan update process.

Background on the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan Update
The Douglas County Community Planning and Sustainable Development Department (CPSD) is working with Douglas County Parks and Trails, and Douglas County Open Space to update the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan (PTOS Plan), a component of the 2030 Douglas County Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP). The PTOS Plan is an evolving sub-element of the CMP that establishes a common vision for what the County will look like over the next 20 to 30 years in terms of parks, trails, and open space. The PTOS Plan provides guidance for planning for future regional parks, trail connections, recreational opportunities, and open space protection, to name a few. Community values are a core element of the update process and integral in making Douglas County a place that residents want to continue to call home.
The 1998 Parks, Trails, and Open Space Master Plan that is being updated is located below under Additional Resources.
