The structure of the draft document will assist the residents of Douglas County in their mitigation efforts and efforts to complete local-level CWPPs, ultimately reducing the potential for catastrophic loss, including loss of life and property in the event of a wildland fire.

Community Wildfire Protection Plan
Leaders from the wildfire suppression, mitigation, and forest management professions within Douglas County are in the process of developing a county-wide Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). Key components of the plan will include a county-wide wildfire hazard assessment, identification of communities at risk, and recommendations on how communities can reduce their risk to wildfire. The plan will serve as an “umbrella” document to provide background information for finer-scale communities within Douglas County (i.e. subdivisions, or homeowners associations) who wish to develop a specific Community Wildfire Protection Plan for their area of interest. The Douglas County CWPP should be completed by mid-year 2011.
The Douglas County Office of Emergency Management, Douglas County Wildfire Mitigation staff, Colorado State Forest Service, Douglas County Fire Protection Districts, and the United States Forest Service are facilitating the planning process.
Community members will have the opportunity to provide input at different stages of the planning process. Meetings will be held within each fire protection district in the fall of 2010 and spring of 2011 to provide updates and solicit community feedback.

Comments were submitted through this website, community meetings, emails, and personal conversations. All comments were reviewed and responses were approved by the Douglas County Community Wildfire Protection Plan Core Team.
