Community Development and Sustainablity
Douglas County is uniquely positioned for success with an abundance of highly educated, skilled, knowledge workers who live near the state’s major employment centers; a robust transportation system that includes a general aviation airport, light rail transit and a newly expanded freeway system; adequate water and power for new growth; a nationally-recognized public education system; a state tax rate among the lowest in the country; an inventory of available office space and entitled sites for construction of new offices and shops, and business-friendly government leaders.

In addition, the quality of life is enhanced by diverse housing options, proximity to world-class arts and cultural amenities, world-class sports franchises, and proximity to some of the best recreation amenities in the world.

Community Development and Sustainablity
Community Planning and Sustainable Development has a pivotal role in managing and protecting the County's resources (land, water, minerals), environment and quality of life. The Department assists the Board of County Commissioners with recommendations to ensure that Douglas County grows in a manner that is fiscally sound and economically beneficial to the County and its taxpayers. Meeting both responsibilities in a growing environment presents considerable challenges and opportunities.
