While only 844 square miles in size, Douglas County has a growing reputation for an astonishing 358 square miles of parks, trails, open space and other protected lands including:

  • 233 miles of public trails
  • 70 public parks - state and local - totaling more than 21 square miles
  • more than 44 square miles of open space
  • nearly 141 miles of the Pike National Forest

Approximately 89% of Douglas County residents live on 17% of the land and have the opportunity to enjoy the hiking, biking, equistrian activity, tennis and golf amenities so abundant in Douglas County and so representative of the Douglas County lifestyle.

Douglas County is home to three state parks – Chatfield State Park, Roxborough State Park and Castlewood Canyon State Park.

Golf is a favorite activity, and just in Douglas County alone we have 18 golf courses.
