As a result, it is recommended that the company/organization providing services be contacted prior to any planned delivery of items for recycling or prior to responding to any Guide listing.
The Resource Guide, compiled to benefit Douglas County residents, will be maintained by the Partnership of Douglas County Governments’ Green Partners Committee, including representatives from Douglas County, Town of Castle Rock, City of Lone Tree, Town of Parker, City of Castle Pines North, Town of Larkspur, Highlands Ranch Community Association, Highlands Ranch Metro District, Douglas County School District and Douglas County Libraries.

Cards
St. Jude’s Ranch for Children accepts a variety of greeting cards. The Ranch provides counseling and opportunities for troubled youth who operate a business by cutting the front covers off of used greeting cards, gluing on new back covers, and selling the result. Compost
You may be throwing away some items that could be adding valuable minerals to your soil making it great for gardening.

- pet wastes (e.g., dog or cat feces, soiled cat litter)

Coffee for Composting
- Crowfoot Valley Coffee on the southeast corner of Fourth and Perry Streets in Castle Rock will give customers coffee grounds to put in their soil. A 38 oz. container of coffee grounds can be purchased for $4 and then refilled for $3. Coffee grounds have many benefits.

- Best Buy - Call your local store for information. Best Buy typically accepts two items per household per day including TVs, computers, DVD players and monitors. A $10 charge is issued for TVs under 32”, CRTs, monitors and laptops, but a $10 Best Buy gift card is provided. Desktop or laptop computers with the hard drive removed are accepted; Best Buy can remove a hard drive for $19.99. Best Buy has a pickup program or haul-away service for console TVs, or TVs and monitors larger than 32”. Best Buy does not accept: internal and external computer hard drives, or electronics containing Freon like mini-refrigerators or air conditioners.

Hazardous Materials
Many common products found in your home such as oil-based paint, mercury, gasoline, degreasers, cleaning compounds and garden chemicals may be hazardous and should be used and disposed of carefully. Every year, the Tri-County Health Department holds three Household Chemical Roundups around the County (Highlands Ranch, Parker and Castle Rock) so that residents can dispose of hazardous materials in a safe manner. You can also look in the phone book to contact a company that can properly dispose of these materials too.

- Children’s Hearing Help Fund Hearing Aid Loan Bank - Call 866-999-2443 to request a hearing aid donation box. Use the box the organization sends to mail in your used hearing aid which will be refurbished. If it is appropriate for infants or young children to wear, it will be available for loaning to Florida children who fail the newborn hearing screening. Florida is the first state to set up a loaner program for hearing aids for infants and children so that they can be exposed to sound early enough to develop language naturally.

Slash/Mulch Program
Douglas County offers a slash/mulch program throughout the summer months (typically May-September) on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1400 Caprice Dr. in Castle Rock. Residents can drop off slash from May through September and pick up free mulch material at the end of the slash collection season.
Acceptable items are tree branches and shrubbery with a maximum length of 6 ft. and maximum diameter of 12 inches. All loads must be covered and tied. Stumps, roots, lumber, ties, grass, dirt, household trash, appliances and weeds are NOT accepted.
