Cultural Council Members
The Douglas County Cultural Council has nine members - three from each Commissioner district.
Mission Statement
To serve a diverse citizenry through access, research, and communication, thereby facilitating the development of cultural opportunities in arts, sciences and history.
Goals
- The Douglas County Cultural Council, in collaboration with the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District and other partners, will create and promote an aggressive calendar of robust public arts exhibits and performances for the entertainment and education of communities throughout Douglas County.
- The Douglas County Cultural Council will identify opportunities to strengthen the cultural vitality of Douglas County by initiating, coordinating and advocating for projects that accomplish that purpose.
- The Douglas County Cultural Council will identify and cultivate the resources needed to implement this Douglas County Cultural Plan.
Grant Information
Since 1989, Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) has distributed funds from a 1/10 of 1% sales and use tax to cultural facilities throughout the seven-county Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. The funds support cultural facilities whose primary purpose is to enlighten and entertain the public through the production, presentation, exhibition, advancement and preservation of art, music, theatre, dance, zoology, botany, natural history and cultural history.
SCFD Eligibility

Final Grant Reports
Funds provided for distribution by the SCFD are public funds. Therefore reporting must be completed to assure accountability of the funds received. A Final Grant Report for all SCFD funds received during the2010 grant season is due Wednesday, February 15, 2012. Organizations with any outstanding FGRs not submitted by this deadline will not be allowed to apply for SCFD Tier III funding during the 2011 grant cycle.
New IRS Filing Requirements for Small Organizations:
Organizations with gross receipts (revenues) below $25,000 have not previously been required to file IRS Form 990. These organizations are now required to electronically submit Form 990-N, also known as the e-Postcard. The first e-Postcards are due in 2008 for tax years ending on or after December 31, 2007. Organizations seeking updated IRS letters affirming their 501c3 status that there are only two ways to do this:
- Call 1-877-829-5500 (toll free) and have their employer Identification Number (EIN) ready an request that they be mailed an updated affirmation letter (be prepared to wait on hold for up to half an hour)
- Fax (1-513-263-4330, NOT toll free) a letter to the IRS requesting and updated 501c3 affirmation letter. Request must include the name of the organization, the EIN and the address to which the letter should be mailed.
Mini-Grant Applications
You may be eligible to fill out a Mini-Grant application form. The Mini-Grant application is a greatly abbreviated version of the full application. Please visit the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District web site for more information.

Meetings
The Douglas County Cultural Council meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the Douglas County Philip S. Miller Bldg., 100 Third St. in Castle Rock, unless otherwise noted on the meeting schedule.

Assistance for Art Encounters [19KB]
The Douglas County Cultural Council (DCCC) initiated a program to create a common cultural Douglas Countywide theme that focused on public art.
Technical Assistance for Cultural Venues [16KB]
The Douglas County Cultural Council (DCCC) received a request for funding of technical assistance in planning a cultural facility. This is the first time a request for technical assistance was received by the DCCC and as such felt that its response would establish consistency/precedence under which this and subsequent request of this type of request handled.
