The Douglas County Adopt-A-Road Program is a partnership between citizens and Douglas County in an effort to remove litter from county roadways by working together to promote civic pride, preserve habitats, improve motorist safety, and preserve our clean environment by eliminating roadside litter.

You can request a road or section of road in unincorporated Douglas County for adoption.  Roads that are adoptable include unincorporated Douglas County roads that are approved by Traffic Services and have not already been adopted by another group.  For safety reasons, some roads may be ineligible for adoption (narrow shoulders, no shoulders or roads with limited sight distances).

Volunteers who adopt county roads are requested to adopt a 1-3 mile section of road for a minimum of one calendar year.

Douglas County provides the following to participants: Orange Safety Vests and Litter bags/bag pickup.

ADOPT-A-ROAD signs including the name of the sponsoring organization, which will be installed at each end of the adopted section of roadway.

Persons who typically volunteer to adopt a roadway include: Individuals; Civic or Non-Profit Organizations; Service Clubs & Organizations; Volunteers from Commercial or Private Enterprises

If you would like to participate in the Adopt-A-Road program, please contact the Traffic Services 303.663.6237 for further information or questions about this program.  Inform us which roadway you would like to adopt and we will determine if it is available and, if not already designated by Adopt-A-Road signs, determine if it can be added to the program. (see above concerning safety issues).

After the proposed road section has been chosen, the Adoption Agreement will be forwarded for signature and a list of guidelines for litter removal to insure the safety of all volunteers.
