Capital Improvements Projects (C.I.P.)

C.I.P. are projects funded by the County, or through the use of grant funding. They include the replacement or construction of bridges/culverts, paving and widening of existing roadways and construction of new regional roadway arterials. Paving of existing local residential gravel roads (in old subdivisions where the roads were never built by the developer, or were built but were never accepted by the County for maintenance) are accomplished through the use of Local Improvement Districts administered through the Engineering Division. C.I.P. staff functions with regard to the implementation of Capital Improvement Projects include: surveying, developing conceptual alignment, studies, preliminary and final design, preparation of construction plans and specifications, acquisition of right-of-way, bidding of work and management of construction activities.

HR TIP - Phase I - 2011, University Blvd. Widening

As part of the Highlands Ranch Transportation Improvement Plan, Douglas County is preparing to make safety and operational improvements at the University / Cresthill Intersection. The County plans to widen westbound University as it approaches Cresthill Lane in order to provide for a dedicated northbound right turn lane. Congestion, especially during the morning rush hour, can be fairly significant, as rush hour commuter traffic overlaps with trips to both the High School and Middle School, which are located nearby on Cresthill Lane. Construction is anticipated to occur this summer and should be substantially completed before middle of August (before school is back in session).
