RidgeGate/Mainstreet Extension - Now Open

RidgeGate_Opening

Monday December 13th marked the official opening of Douglas County’s newest 3.5 mile, east-west corridor transportation project.  The ribbon cutting for the RidgeGate / Mainstreet / Peoria Extension Project took place under sunny skies with elected officials from Douglas County, Lone Tree, and Parker sharing the stage with representatives of RidgeGate and the Meridian International Business Center.

This parkway project is a model public-private-partnership whose efforts created a mutually beneficial addition to Douglas County’s transportation infrastructure that relieves traffic congestion on Lincoln Avenue between I-25 and Parker Road and provides economic development stimulus to the corridor.   Funding for the project included $4 million from Douglas County, $2.5 million from the Southeast Transportation Management Authority (TMA), $0.5 Million from the Meridian Village Metro District, approximately $3 million worth of Right of Way and permanent temporary easement dedicated by RidgeGate – Coventry Development Corporation, and $300,000 for signals from Douglas County.  Construction for the project began on June 1, 2010.

The new roadway provides a direct benefit to individual motorists whose travel options include an additional east-west connection from Interstate 25.  Traffic modeling completed by consultant Felsburg, Holt, Ullevig shows projected savings of approximately $2 million per year in reduced public commute time.

Douglas County, the City of Lone Tree, and Coventry Development have partnered together to extend Ridgegate / Mainstreet from I-25 to Meridian Village Parkway and extend Peoria Street from Crescent Moon Parkway to Ridgegate Parkway.

The City of Lone Tree is managing the design and construction of the extension of Ridgegate Parkway East between I-25 and Peoria Street and Peoria Street from existing Crescent Moon Parkway to Ridgegate Parkway (Phase 1) to provide additional access to Lincoln Avenue. The County is managing the construction of the extension of Ridgegate Parkway / Mainstreet between Peoria Street and Meridian Village Parkway (Phase 2).

With this project, the County will complete another critical transportation corridor between SH 83 and I-25 that will relieve congestion on Lincoln Avenue. Upon the completion of the Ridgegate / Mainstreet / Peoria Extension, it is anticipated to significantly reduce congestion on Lincoln Avenue between SH 83 and I-25, adjacent to the Meridian Business Park.

The City of Lone Tree and the Southeast Transportation Management Authority (TMA) executed an Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) on April 30, 2010 in which the TMA will provide funding to the City of Lone Tree and Douglas County for $2.5 Million towards the construction of the two projects (Phase 1 and Phase 2). Winslow Construction was the approved contractor for Phase1 at $1.34 Million. Douglas County opened bids for Phase 2 on Tuesday, May 11, 2010. This construction contract was approved by the Board of Douglas County Commissioners to award the contract to Dwire Earthmoving and Excavation for $6.3 Million, and construction began on June 1, 2010; and is progressing ahead of schedule.
