The Fish on the Floor : Memories of the Upper South Platte River
Object ID:
2014.001.01
Object Name:
Tile, Asphalt
Description:
Asphalt tiles over tongue and groove wood floor, green and white tiles with the inlaid picture of a rainbow trout fish using other asphalt tile colors. There is a stylized 'fly' above the fish's mouth. The 4x5 foot piece of the floor with the picture was removed when the Denver Water Board remodeled the Deckers Bar in Deckers, Colorado about 1999 and the artifact was given to the Mountain Artisans Arts Council.
MAAC estimates the floor with the picture was done in the 1930s or 1940s. Nell Fletcher gives this short history: The picture on the floor was near the stove, not under it. The room was strictly a bar with the dining hall through French doors to the west, and the bar on the east. Entrance to the bar was on the north.
