County Open Space Advisory Committee
The purpose of the County Open Space Advisory Committee (COSAC) is to help ensure and enhance the positive quality of life in Douglas County through the preservation and stewardship of open space lands.
Working with staff, the committee makes recommendations to the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners and municipal officials regarding disbursement of funds from the Open Space Land, Trails, and Parks Fund, and the selection of open space land to be acquired, maintained, or preserved, and for the establishment of preservation priorities through citizen input.
COSAC is made of nine members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. The members are comprised of three representatives of municipal government selected from a list of nominees submitted by the municipalities, three representatives of the County, one from each Commissioner district, and three members appointed at large with at least one of these to be a Douglas County Planning Commission member and one a professional land planner. COSAC members are appointed for a term of three years with terms staggered so that one-third expire each year. Members may be re-appointed at the discretion of the Board of County Commissioners.
Public Involvement
All meetings of the committee, except executive session, are open to the public. Monthly meetings are generally the first Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.

This is an excellent opportunity for the public to provide input on land acquisition, management and other concerns. Public involvement is highly encouraged and welcomed at these monthly meetings. Come out and meet your County’s advisory members at our next meeting.
