The Park Ranger Program was established in 2001 to meet the educational and enforcement needs of the Division of Parks and Trails and the Division of Open Space and Natural Resources.
Primary objectives of the ranger program include:
- Protection of visitors and resources – both natural and man-made;
- Assistance with natural resource efforts including public education;
- Response to emergency situations; and
- Wildfire suppression on park and open space properties.
The Park Ranger Program is a uniformed enforcement division that is responsible for enforcing park and open space rules and regulations. Actively patrolling parks, trails and open spaces allows Park Rangers to have daily contact with the public. Park Rangers also can assist and initiate search and rescue procedures, providing technical and hands-on support. In addition to regular patrol, rangers assist natural resource specialists with their public education efforts.
In 2003 Park Rangers initiated contact with 13,000 park, trail and open space users. Rangers are able to patrol park and open space properties on foot, bike or horseback, as well as patrolling from ranger vehicles and an all-terrain vehicle.
The Park Rangers can be contacted at 303.660.7495.
