Castlewood Canyon State Park expanded its boundaries with the acquisition
of the 167-acre Metzler Property. This prominent ridge lies on the
northern edge of the park and protects native grasslands, ponderosa pine
forest, shrub lands, unique rock outcroppings and tributary waters of Cherry
Creek.
Partners in acquiring the Metzler Property included Colorado State Parks, Great Outdoors Colorado, Friends of Castlewood Canyon, Douglas County and a private landowner. Because the property is now part of Castlewood Canyon State Park, all access must be consistent with State Parks regulations.
