The Board of Douglas County Commissioners approved both the Sterling Ranch rezoning and the water appeal by separate, 3-0 votes, on May 11, 2011. The approvals were contingent upon the applicant making specific changes to documents that were ratified at the Board's May 31, 2011 public hearing.

The Douglas County Planning Commission held public hearings to discuss the Sterling Ranch project on Oct. 25, Oct. 26, Nov. 1, Nov. 3 and wrapped up on Nov. 15. The Planning Commission recommended approval of the water appeal to the Board of County Commissioners with a vote of 5-4.
