Transportation Engineering and Traffic Operations

What We Do:
Transportation Engineering
- Review land development plans for traffic-related issues;
- Review Traffic Impact Studies for new land development;
- Investigate traffic concerns in neighborhoods and on the major roadway system (speeding, cut-through traffic, requests for traffic signals, etc.);
- Prepare traffic signal timing plans to ensure that traffic signals along long corridors operate in a synchronized fashion during peak travel periods;
- Monitor the safety performance of and make recommendations for improvement to roadways and intersections in unincorporated Douglas County;
- Coordinate with other agencies (federal, state, regional, local) on transportation issues;
- Identify and address future needs for the Douglas County transportation system.
Traffic Operations
- Install and maintain roadway striping and markings in unincorporated Douglas County;
- Install and maintain traffic signs in unincorporated Douglas County;
- Oversee the installation of and maintain traffic signals in unincorporated Douglas County;
- Install and maintain flashing school zone signs ("school flashers");
- Collect traffic data in support of efforts by Transportation Engineering;
- Provide support to other departments within the County (e.g. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Emergency Services and other Public Works Divisions, etc).
