The much-anticipated final segment of the 28-mile East/West Regional Trail is nearing completion and you are invited to celebrate the opening. Be the first to walk, run or ride the final stretch of this regional trail!

With the opening of this scenic portion of trail, Douglas County communities from western Highlands Ranch through Parker are now connected by a safe, enjoyable, health-promoting transportation option.

Join us July 24 at 9 a.m. near the trail’s intersection with the Rueter-Hess Incline trail at 11865 Heirloom Pkwy in Parker and take advantage of as much or as little of the full 28 miles of East/West Regional Trail as you would like. Live nearby? Save a parking spot and use your local trail system to get there.

This new section runs east 4.7 miles from a trailhead, located near RidgeGate Parkway and I-25, at Schweiger Ranch and connects to the existing trail underpass at South Chambers Road in Parker. The final 8 miles of the East/West Regional Trail were made possible by a $2 million grant from GOCO to Douglas County and the Town of Parker.

Construction on the East/West Regional Trail system began in 2002 and with this opening now runs from Redstone Community Park in Highlands Ranch to the Cherry Creek Trail in Parker serving as the backbone for a network of local trails and creating a commuter and recreational connection for the entire region.

The East/West Regional Trail system provides access to recreational, employment, transportation and retail opportunities to the residents of Douglas County, Highlands Ranch, the City of Castle Pines, the City of Lone Tree, the City of Littleton and the Town of Parker as well as individuals from throughout the Denver Metro area.

Successful completion of this portion of the project relied on the collaboration of local and state partners including, the City of Lone Tree, the Town of Parker, Rampart Range Metro District, RidgeGate Investments, Schweiger Ranch Foundation, Xcel Energy and Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO).

Additional partners including the Colorado Department of Transportation, Castle Pines North Metro District, Highlands Ranch Community Association, Highlands Ranch Metro District, Mission Viejo Company and Shea Homes were instrumental in the completion of earlier phases of this extensive regional trail endeavor.
