The Douglas County Assessor’s Office, led by Assessor Lisa Frizell, has been awarded the prestigious Center for Digital Government’s Government Experience Award for innovation in the Assessor’s website and online services.
“The award recognizes the achievements and best practices of counties that have gone to the web and beyond to radically improve the experience of government and push the boundaries of how citizen services are delivered,” according to the Center for Digital Government’s award criteria.
“Our staff is excited and proud of the award,” said Frizell. “The Douglas County Assessor’s Office has a reputation for innovation and trend-setting in our profession, and other counties look to our office for best practices.”
The Assessor’s Office launched the new website in 2017 to update architecture and improve performance. Enhanced functionality was based on staff innovation and feedback from user panels, and designed to meet the Office’s goals of complete data transparency and elevated customer service. The website’s features include:
- Mobile responsive design, making the site easy to use on phones, tablets, etc.
- Intuitive, intelligent, and industry leading search tools.
- Integration with Google and other map services, providing geospatial data and street views without leaving the Assessor’s site.
- In-depth property detail pages including ten years of value and tax history, sales history, property characteristics, and other data.
- Property specific documents available to download.
- Online chat with Assessor staff.
“This is all public information, and the alternative to being able to access it online is having to call or come to the office,” Frizell said. “With that in mind, we’re simply providing a technology-based convenience for citizens and meeting them where they are. Efficiently providing the information they need, when and where they need it – that’s true customer service.”
Since releasing the website updates, the Assessor’s Office has seen “a measurable increase in engagement and overwhelmingly positive feedback from users and citizens,” noted the Assessor. These new tools and features are only the beginning, as the office recently released yet another update—the Advanced Search application.
Advanced Search is an online search and reporting tool, that enables the user to create custom data sets from Assessor information free of charge, without assistance from county staff. The system was designed to allow citizens, businesses and local governments to access the full range of real estate information from the County Assessor’s database.
