FEMA requires a Hazard Mitigation Plan to be updated every five years. The Local Planning Committee meetings are open to the public. Residents, neighboring communities, and stakeholders are invited to participate in the Plan update and public comments will be received at Local Planning Committee meetings.
The goal of the Plan is to minimize or eliminate the long-term risk to human life and property from known hazards by identifying and implementing cost-effective mitigation actions. The Risk Assessment provides a factual basis for activities proposed in the strategy portion of a Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Risk Assessment identifies hazards and their occurrence within the planning area; compares the risk of exposure to an established inventory of assets; and provides an estimate of potential human and economic losses based on the vulnerability of people, buildings, and infrastructure.
