Do you live in Lone Tree, and Sweetwater Park is your neighborhood park? Or, do you live in Highlands Ranch, and Toepfer Park is where you play? We have good news. Previously unused portions of land at both sites now have blooming futures thanks to partnership.
The Board of Douglas County Commissioners – in partnership with the Douglas County School District – is dedicating 10 acres of land at Toepfer Park to the Highlands Ranch Metro District and 31 acres at Sweetwater Park to South Suburban Parks and Recreation. The Board of Douglas County Commissioners voted to approve the agreements during a regular business meeting June 28.
Both sites had previously been reserved for school use. Now, the sites will be used for recreation at the discretion of South Suburban (Sweetwater) and Highlands Ranch Metro District (Toepfer.)
Sweetwater Park, 13170 Mercury Drive in Lone Tree, currently offers a playground, baseball field, basketball court, multipurpose fields, restrooms and a picnic shelter.
Toepfer Park, 9320 Venneford Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch, currently offers a playground, basketball courts, sports fields, a picnic shelter and restrooms. It is owned and operated by the Highlands Ranch Metro District.
As the Highlands Ranch Metro District and South Suburban develop master plans for each site, public participation will be a key component.
