Phase 1 of this project – Southern Connector – will include the construction of a 2.8 mile minor arterial two-lane roadway between Airport Road and Moore Road, four bridges, drainage facilities, and fencing. There are four bridges on the Project that were design for elk crossing since the roadway crosses the County’s major wildlife corridor between the Pike National Forest and the Highland Ranch OSCA. There are two, single span bridges and two, three span bridges. The Indian Creek Bridge on the east end of the project has a total bridge length of 410 feet. The completed roadway will have two 12-foot lanes with paved shoulders. Speeds may be reduced to 30 MPH on Moore Road and Louviers Blvd/Airport Road for the safety of the workers and to prevent vehicle damage. There may also be intermittent traffic holds of 5 minutes or less as crews mobilize equipment and materials in and out of the jobsite. Construction began February 25, 2019. Crews will typically be on site Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Weekend work may be considered for critical work items.
- Ongoing – Work continues including roadway grading, installation of drainage infrastructure such as pipes, manholes, and ponds as well continued progress in constructing bridge elements. All bridge caissons and piers are installed and construction of approaches, abutments (including driving and splicing of steel H-piles), and pier caps is continuing. Significant progress has also been made on the off-site pre-casting of the pre-stressed girders for the bridges. Girder delivery and erection for 3 of the 4 bridges is targeted for later this summer.
