Vehicle Title Services

REQUEST A DUPLICATE TITLE

Eligibility:

  • You must have an active title
  • You must not have any liens against your title

What You’ll Need:

  • License plate number
  • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or Verification Code
  • Secure and Verifiable Identification
  • Power of Attorney documentation (if power of attorney is used)
  • A valid credit card or check (if payment is required)

What You’ll Need:

  • Complete form DR 2539A: Duplicate Title/Lien Request and Receipt
  • Power of Attorney documentation (if duplicate title is being requested by someone other than the owner or lien holder)
  • The fee for a duplicate title is $8.20

REQUEST A LIEN RELEASE

What You’ll Need:

  • Complete form DR 2539A: Duplicate Title/Lien Request and Receipt
  • Lien released in the following manner:
    • Title must be signed off by finance company OR
    • Provide lien release letter from lien holder, signed under penalty of perjury or notarized
  • The fee for the new title is $7.20

REQUEST A TITLE NAME CHANGE

What You’ll Need:

  • Provide the vehicle title – signed off with old name as seller and new name change as buyer
    • If the vehicle is being financed, contact your lien holder to initiate the name change request
    • Provide copy of legal documentation showing name change. Examples:
      • Marriage License
      • Divorce Decree
      • Other court documents
  • The fee for the new title is $7.20

REQUEST TO ADD OR REMOVE A NAME FROM A TITLE

What You’ll Need:

  • Provide title signed off by all current owners as seller and new owners as buyers (at least one owner must remain the same)
    • If the vehicle is being financed, contact your lien holder to initiate the change in ownership request
  • If more than one owner remains, complete form DR 2395: Joint Tenancy with Rights of Survivorship
    • Each remaining owner must sign their acknowledgement on this form
  • The fee for the new title is $7.20

TITLE INFORMATION WHEN GIFTING/GIVING/DONATING A VEHICLE

In the state of Colorado, the process to gift a vehicle is the same as selling a vehicle. Please follow the instructions as outlined in the appropriate category here: BUYING OR SELLING A VEHICLE

  • When completing the purchase price field on the title, write the word ‘Gift’, instead of a dollar amount. If there is no purchase price field on the title, complete a Bill of Sale showing ‘Gift’ as the purchase price.
