In this spirit, at their regularly scheduled Business Meeting April 9, your Board of Douglas County Commissioners formally recognized April as National Volunteer Month, April 21-27 as National Volunteer Week and proclaimed a “Dougnad” volunteer season.
Dougnad is based upon a Norwegian tradition known as “dugnad.” Dugnad is best described as a community day or service event where work is performed as part of a social gathering.

Volunteers have contributed so much energy to enhance our open space properties. Shrubs and trees at trailheads and in restoration areas were probably planted by volunteers. When you sit on a bench or refer to a directional sign along a trail, realize that they were probably installed for you by volunteers.
