The Town of Castle Rock is planning transportation improvements to the Four Corners intersection, located approximately two miles east of Downtown. Increasing traffic at this intersection of Founders Parkway, Fifth Street, State Highway 86, and Ridge Road is causing safety and congestion concerns and there is a need to better accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Improvement ideas were developed and evaluated earlier this year, in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Transportation and Douglas County. The recommended concept for an improved signalized intersection was shared during a March open house. Community input received during that meeting has been considered and incorporated into the preliminary (30%) design.
Proposed improvements include added lanes on all legs of the intersection at the traffic signal, free right turn movements, signal timing and phasing improvements, and local access improvements. These upgrades will improve traffic operations and enhance safety and mobility through the intersection. This solution will have the ability to flex to accommodate future travel patterns and multimodal demand into the year 2040.
Community members will have the opportunity to view the preliminary design and provide comments at an online open house from 6 – 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 27. Feedback will be used to optimize improvements and minimize impacts as the design is finalized. Final design is expected to be complete early next year.
