Efforts to focus on increasing speed to market

Douglas County has a strong history of eliminating barriers for business investment, creating effective partnerships, and maintaining a low-tax environment. The Board of Douglas County Commissioners reaffirmed its commitment to this pro-business policy during the annual State of Douglas County event in December.
More than 400 community, government, nonprofit and business leaders gathered for the Board’s annual report to the community on Dec. 11 at the Denver Marriott South in Lone Tree.
In addition to highlighting the community’s 2025 accomplishments, Commissioners reaffirmed their commitment to businesses, referencing a resolution they passed earlier in the week during a regular business meeting. They ceremoniously signed the resolution during the event.
“In Douglas County, we continue to focus on cutting unnecessary red tape so businesses can begin growing their business – and contributing to our local economy – without delay,” said Commissioner Kevin Van Winkle. “By streamlining processes and removing outdated and burdensome barriers, we’re making county government even more efficient and more responsive — while still protecting public health, safety, and quality of life.”
The resolution states, in part, that Douglas County will:
“This resolution is about making Douglas County government work better for the people we serve,” said Commissioner Abe Laydon. “This action reflects the board’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and practical solutions that respect both economic growth and community standards.”
“Speed to market matters,” said Commissioner George Teal. “By cutting unnecessary red tape, this resolution helps businesses move from idea to operation faster, making Douglas County more competitive.”
“Our ambition is to position Douglas County not just as a leader within Colorado, but as a national competitor,” said Ellie Reynolds, CEO of the Douglas County Economic Development Collaborative. “We are deeply appreciative to stand alongside three dedicated Commissioners who are unified in their commitment to fostering a genuinely business-friendly environment.”
