Show your heart to help end homelessness

February fundraising campaign invites the community to turn Valentine’s Day spirit into compassionate action

This February, the Douglas County Homeless Initiatives invites all of us to show a little extra love for our community through Douglas Has HEART, a month-long fundraising campaign benefiting the Homeless Engagement, Assistance and Resource Team (HEART).

Timed to coincide with Valentine’s Day and its themes of compassion, connection and community, the campaign highlights the role everyone can play in supporting neighbors experiencing homelessness. Contributions made through DouglasHasHeart.org will directly support HEART’s ongoing efforts to connect individuals and families with critical resources and services. Please note that contributions are not tax-deductible.

HEART is a co-responder program that pairs trained Navigators with local law enforcement to provide outreach, support and resources to people experiencing homelessness. Team members focus on building trust, addressing immediate needs and connecting individuals to long-term housing solutions, mental health services and wrap-around case management.

“Love for our community means taking care of one another—especially those who may be struggling,” said County Commissioner Abe Laydon, founder and Chair of Douglas County’s Homeless Initiative. “This campaign is a simple way for our community to come together and support compassionate, practical solutions that make a real difference.”

The fundraising campaign will run through March 12. Community members interested in supporting the effort can learn more about HEART and make a secure online contribution at DouglasHasHeart.org. Funds raised will help sustain HEART’s outreach efforts and enhance its ability to respond effectively to homelessness throughout the county. Every contribution, regardless of size, helps extend services that promote dignity, stability and hope.
