The Douglas County community is invited to two more opportunities for public engagement on Home Rule.
- During a Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 10, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners will consider a resolution in support of the formation of a Home Rule Charter Commission.
- At 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17, the Board will host a second Live Town Hall about Home Rule. This session will be mostly Q&A.
During a special election on June 24, 2025, Douglas County voters will decide whether to create a Home Rule Charter Commission and consider electing the 21-member Home Rule Charter Commission. If approved by voters, the Commission would be tasked with drafting a proposed charter.
The proposed resolution for June 10 acknowledges the authority of every county to become a Home Rule County, as stated in the Colorado Constitution, and expresses the Board’s view that Home Rule is a profound need in Douglas County to protect itself from certain statewide policies and create greater local control. The proposed resolution concludes by calling on the residents to vote ‘Yes’ to the creation of a Home Rule Charter Commission.
Attend the Business Meeting in person or join online on June 10 at 1:30 p.m. to hear the Board’s discussion, public comment, and official vote on the resolution.
