Apply for 2024-25 countywide Art Encounters public art program by March 1
Posted on January 8, 2024 2024News and Events
Imagine your work of art on display for everyone to see, prominently highlighted in Douglas County as part of the well-established Art Encounters public art program. If you’re a sculptor, submit your work now for a $1,000 stipend and have your selected work on display for one year.
Founded in 2007, Art Encounters is a year-long, outdoor sculpture exhibit showcasing sculptures, in various media and styles, displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Lone Tree and Roxborough. Selected sculptures are viewed by thousands of visitors annually.
Art Encounters was created by citizen advocates for the arts to promote public interest in art, develop community pride and draw visitors to the retail and civic areas where pieces are displayed. Local artists and those from throughout the country are invited to submit work to this program, which is an essential part of our vibrant community.
Chosen sculptors receive a $1,000 stipend and will be considered for the $1,000 people’s choice honorarium and the $1,000 kid’s choice prize. Additionally, since the program’s inception, more than 22 pieces have been purchased or donated.
All applications must be received online at ArtCall.org, no later than Friday, March 1. Selected work will be on display from May 2024 to May 2025. Read about submission requirements.
Art Encounters was born from efforts of the Douglas County Cultural Council, the statutorily required local citizen advisory board that, since 2007, has granted Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funds toward the Art Encounters program. Douglas County Libraries and the Town of Castle Rock also provide funding to participate in the program.
