Dawson Butte Open Space closed weekdays for fire mitigation work

Forestry work to improve wildlife habitat and forest health continues through December

Update: Dawson Butte Open Space will be open on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, in addition to weekends in December.

Do you frequent the trails and open space at Dawson Butte south of Castle Rock? Please be aware, the property will be closed Mondays through Fridays in December to allow crews to safely perform fire mitigation.

Starting Wednesday, Dec. 6, forestry crews will be working weekdays near the trailhead and parking lot, felling trees and clearing brush to prevent forest fires. Work is expected to last through December.

The open space will be open on weekends only from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset each day.

For your safety, please obey all signage at Dawson Butte and do not attempt to go around any barriers or into restricted work zones. The presence of heavy equipment makes it especially important to stay on the trail when open on weekends. As always, please keep your dogs on leash and pack out all waste.
