Douglas County is not on the list; Commissioners affirm commitment to federal immigration laws
The Federal Government released its list of sanctuary jurisdictions on Thursday. While Douglas County is not on the list, neighboring communities are, and Douglas County Commissioners Abe Laydon, George Teal and Kevin Van Winkle want to remind their community that they remain committed to working with law enforcement on issues of immigration and support the Trump Administration’s policies.
According to the White House’s webpage, Executive Order 14287: Protecting American Communities from Criminal Aliens required the list, which was created to identify cities, counties and states that are “deliberately and shamefully obstructing the enforcement of federal immigration laws…”
The list was determined by factors like compliance with federal law enforcement, information restrictions and legal protections for illegal immigrants.
