Are you a sculptor with a desire to see your work on public display?

Consider submitting your artwork to the well-established Douglas County Art Encounters public art program.

Founded in 2007, Art Encounters is a year-long, outdoor sculpture exhibit showcasing sculptures, in various media and styles, displayed in highly visible areas in Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker, Roxborough and the Lone Tree Library. Selected sculptures are viewed by thousands of visitors annually.

Art Encounters was created by citizen advocates for the arts to promote public interest in art, develop community pride and draw visitors to the retail and civic areas where pieces are displayed. Local and national artists are invited to submit work to this program, which is an essential part of our vibrant community.

All chosen sculptors receive a $1,000 stipend and will be considered for the $1,000 people’s choice honorarium and the $1,000 kid’s choice prize. Additionally, since the program’s inception, more than 12 pieces have been purchased or donated.

All applications must be received online at ArtCall.org, no later than Tuesday, Feb. 28. Selected work will be on display from May 2023 to May 2024. Read about submission requirements.

Art Encounters was born from efforts of the Douglas County Cultural Council, the statutorily-required local citizen advisory board that, since 2007, has granted Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funds for the Art Encounters program implementation in Highlands Ranch, Parker and Roxborough. Castle Rock, not within the SCFD, derives its funding for Art Encounters installations from the Town’s portion of the Philip S. Miller Trust. Douglas County Libraries also provides funding to participate in the program.
