Douglas County launches information hotline and email to connect residents with utility providers
Posted on March 25, 2026 2026News and Events
Fiber installation is underway in Highlands Ranch—and we’ve heard your questions and frustrations. That’s why we’ve created a simple, centralized hub where residents can get information, share concerns, and connect directly with the right utility provider.
Four separate utility companies – Google (GFiber), BAM Broadband, CenturyLink/Lumen (Forged Fiber) and Comcast – are installing or maintaining their fiber optic. Because it’s difficult to know who is working where and when, Douglas County has launched a new public information hotline and email.
Douglas County operates this service as a central point of contact for residents. When you call or email, our public information team will gather details, share updates when available and connect you with the appropriate utility provider.
While the County coordinates communication and serves as a liaison, utility companies are responsible for all construction, repairs and service-related issues. The County does not dispatch repair crews or directly resolve service problems.
What is fiber?
Fiber internet is a high-speed internet service delivered through underground fiber optic cables consisting of thin strands of glass that transmit data as pulses of light. The technology allows data to travel over long distances at incredibly fast speeds and doesn’t rely heavily on electrical power, making it faster and more reliable than cable internet.
What are the impacts of this work?
Impacts for this work vary for each utility company. Generally, permitted fiber activities are allowed between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. No weekend work is allowed.
Ahead of installation, crews will first call 811 and work with underground utility companies to mark utility lines with flags and paint. Construction crews will then install fiber lines within existing rights-of-way or public utility easements.
Installation locations by provider:
After construction, crews will conduct inspections, remove utility markings and notify property owners when work is complete.
About the Project
Since 2023, multiple utility providers have been installing or upgrading fiber networks throughout Highlands Ranch. Work by GFiber, BAM Broadband, Forged Fiber and Comcast is expected to continue through spring 2027.
Douglas County will maintain an information hotline and email to help residents navigate construction activity and connect with the appropriate providers, ensuring consistent and accessible communication throughout the project.
