Upcoming 100-day closure on County Line Road as widening project progresses in January 2026

Full closure begins January 2026 lasting through mid-April; business access will remain open

If you travel along County Line Road between University Boulevard and Broadway, please be aware of an upcoming full roadway closure as part of the ongoing County Line Road Widening and Reconstruction project.

What: A portion of County Line Road between University Boulevard and Broadway will be fully closed for approximately 100 days, through mid-April. Both directions of County Line Road will be closed between Clarkson Street and the U-Haul business access during this period.

When: The closure begins Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, and is expected to last approximately 100 days, reopening mid-April 2026. Construction hours will remain Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m. Saturday work may occur with Douglas County approval.

Why: Crews will require a full closure to safely import, move and place large quantities of dirt, equal to filling 40,000 washing machines, at Lee Gulch. The fill operations, which are a key component of the widening and reconstruction work, will level out the roadway by removing the dip at Lee Gulch, improving drainage, driver line of sight and overall public safety.

Detours and Access

Businesses: Business access will remain open via County Line Road.

Residents: Residential access to Clarkson Street will be maintained via Dry Creek and County Line roads.

Commuters: For through trips on County Line Road, use C-470 between University Boulevard and Broadway to navigate around the closure.

Once this phase is complete, crews will continue work on the next portion of the widening project.

Safety Message

Everyone’s safety is our top priority. Please follow posted detours and speed limits, eliminate distractions, and use extra caution when traveling near the construction zone. Although crews will not be working 24/7, the roadway cannot be reopened during off-hours due to significant earthwork and the inability to safely support traffic until this phase is complete.

About the Project

Douglas County, in partnership with the City of Littleton, City of Centennial and the Denver Regional Council of Governments, started construction on the County Line Road Widening and Reconstruction Project between University and Broadway in September 2025. The $30 million project will improve safety and mobility and include one additional travel lane in each direction, a new traffic signal at the Clarkson Street and County Line Road intersection, mill and overlay for the portion of road within the City of Littleton between Phillips Avenue and Broadway, and the addition of new sidewalks, which will increase safety and mobility in the area. Project completion is slated for September 2027.
