County Debt

At fiscal year-end 2021, Douglas County’s total debt will be 3.0 million. Douglas County has no general obligation debt and no outstanding certificates of participation. All of the County’s current debt is dedicated solely to open space ($3.0 million).  Click on  Debt Summary to view a spreadsheet summarizing our current outstanding debt.

Douglas County’s debt is scheduled to be paid off completely in October of 2022.

One of Douglas County’s guiding principles is to cash fund capital projects versus incurring debt.  By doing so the County minimizes interest paid so taxpayer’s money goes to the project, not interest payments.  Cash funding of projects requires the County to accumulate the necessary money, in many cases over multiple years. This results in higher levels of fund balance until the project is completed
