When you think about homelessness, what comes to mind?

Learn about this growing issue in Douglas County – and why the code enforcement you expect requires a shelter. Also, provide your feedback on the direction of the new Douglas County Homeless Initiative during a Live Town Hall from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 22. Please note this time has been updated to allow time for the Live Town Hall ahead of the Avalanche playoff game.

The Live Town Hall will be in-person at the Philip Miller Building, 100 Third St. in Castle Rock. Those who join in-person will have an opportunity to speak personally with commissioners and panelists after the event.

Or join online at douglas.co.us/townhall or via phone by calling 833-380-0668. Or simply answer the phone when we call to invite you to join us. To receive a call just before a Live Town Hall begins, visit douglas.co.us/townhall and register.

The number of those experiencing homelessness in Colorado is increasing faster than in most other states, according to 2021 point-in-time data from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In Douglas County, the Sheriff’s Office makes an average of 23 contacts related to homelessness every month.

In January 2022, Douglas County convened the Douglas County Homeless Initiative – a partnership of municipalities, non-profits, law enforcement agencies, faith leaders, mental health experts, the school district, and others working together to evaluate and address homelessness in Douglas County.

Together, this initiative has established the philosophy of the Four C’s – Compassion, Code Enforcement, Community Service and Communications. During the Live Town Hall, initiative representatives will dive into this philosophy, take your questions, and listen to your feedback.
