We all know someone who has served in America’s armed forces. If you served, we thank you.

In honor of all who served, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners, Douglas County Veterans Service Office and the Douglas County Veterans Monument Foundation invite you to a Veterans Day ceremony to honor our American heroes. The event begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Veterans Monument Plaza, 301 Wilcox St. in Castle Rock.

This year, the program will feature a keynote address from First Sergeant Cody Jennings, US Army and Douglas County resident. 1SG Jennings began his military career four days after graduating high school in 2004. He served as an Infantryman, graduated from Ranger School in 2009, served as a Ranger Instructor,  Drill Sergeant, and Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant. 1SG Jennings has deployed to Afghanistan in 2005 and Iraq in 2006, 2007, and 2010.

Awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Valorous Unit Award, Ranger Tab, Senior Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Expert Infantry Badge.

The event will also feature an F-16 Flyover by 120th Fighter Squadron, Colorado Air National Guard and music from local musician and 30-year Colorado resident Byron Miller. A passionate guitarist, keyboardist and singer, Miller regularly performs at a variety of venues in Douglas County and serves on the worship team at Front Range Church.
