Do you travel through the intersection of University/Lincoln and Quebec in Highlands Ranch? Construction begins again Monday, March 11, and we are asking you to please plan ahead.

What Can You Expect?

Drivers should consider an alternate route to bypass construction. Possible alternative routes include Wildcat Reserve Parkway, McArthur Ranch Road, I-25 and C-470. If you choose an alternate route, please abide by the posted speed limits and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. Please note that Monarch Boulevard will be closed near Castle Pines Parkway, starting March 17.

Residential Impacts

Residential roads are built for local traffic weight limits and volumes. Regional roads are built for higher weight limits and traffic volumes. When traffic from main roads overflows onto neighborhood roads, it can cause safety concerns for residents trying to access their homes or main roads.

To alleviate traffic on local roads, Douglas County will close all inbound traffic from Quebec Street onto Dutch Creek Street beginning on March 11. Dutch Creek Street will be closed to through traffic from Quebec Street during construction at University/Lincoln and Quebec. For access to Dutch Creek Street, use eastbound Lincoln Avenue. Dutch Creek Street is expected to reopen in May 2024.

Emergency access will be maintained during construction on Quebec Street, Lincoln Avenue and University Boulevard. All non-residential traffic traveling through the intersection should stay on University/Lincoln & Quebec or find an alternate route during construction.

Construction is expected to wrap up in early fall 2024.

About this Project

Douglas County is improving road quality and safety at the intersection at University/Lincoln and Quebec in Highlands Ranch by rebuilding and reconfiguring the entire intersection – which was built with Highlands Ranch more than 40 years ago. Work includes a new traffic signal system, raised pedestrian safety islands, additional eastbound and westbound lanes on Lincoln Avenue and University Boulevard, and a new right-turn-only lane from southbound Quebec Street to westbound University Boulevard.

Construction on this $13 million project began in July 2023 and is expected to be complete in fall 2024. Douglas County thanks Douglas County Parks and Recreation, Highlands Ranch HOA and Highlands Ranch Metro District for their partnership in making this project possible.
