Running a business out of your home?

The pandemic changed how we all work. But when does working from home become running a business out of your home?

For residents in unincorporated Douglas County, there are zoning regulations that define what’s allowed and what’s not for home-based businesses. Based on community inquiries, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners is considering changes to these regulations for residents in unincorporated Douglas County, and specifically for those living on 4.5 acres or more that is zoned for agriculture or rural development. The Board wants to hear from you before making decisions.

Join a Live Town Hall at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, to learn about the proposed changes and provide your feedback.

The Live Town Hall will be in-person at the Philip Miller Building, 100 Third St. in Castle Rock. Or join online at douglas.co.us/townhall or via phone by calling 833-380-0668. Or simply answer the phone when we call to invite you to join us. To receive a call just before a Live Town Hall begins, visit douglas.co.us/townhall and register.

The proposed changes would loosen restrictions on the overall amount of space the business occupies on the property, specify the number of business-related vehicle trips, and regulate the size and weight of vehicles used for business. Learn more about the specific proposed amendments to Douglas County Zoning Resolution Section 23, Home Occupation, at the Live Town Hall.

Following the Live Town Hall, an online survey will be available online at douglas.co.us.
