In 2023, Douglas County homeowners experienced the largest increase in home values in state history. While property value reassessment is a state-controlled process, the Board of Douglas County Commissioners acted at the local level to mitigate this impact, including a reduction in Douglas County’s share of your property tax bill.
What do you need to know?
- Relief checks will be mailed in July 2024 to the owner of record on July 1, 2024 or in October 2024 for the owner of record on September 15, 2024.
- To receive a check, you (or your mortgage company) must have paid the property tax bill in full by the deadline for the July mailing or by September 15, 2024, for the October mailing.
- To receive a check, you (or your mortgage company) must have paid the property tax bill by the deadline. Checks are being mailed directly to property owners, not mortgage companies.
- Deposit or cash your check by Dec. 1, 2024. After that, uncashed checks will be credited toward property taxes to be paid in 2025.
- The relief check represents about 19% of Douglas County’s portion of your property tax bill (not your total property tax bill.) Average checks will be about $200, depending on the actual amount paid to Douglas County. To see details about this calculation for your property, visit douglas.co.us/assessor.
