Animals in Child Care

To prevent illness and harm, some animals are not permitted in child care facilities. Animal restrictions may also depend on the age of the children in the room.

Prohibited in all child care facilities:

  • Ferrets
  • Hooked billed birds
  • Poisonous amphibians
  • Primates
  • Stray animals
  • Venomous reptiles
  • Venomous spiders

Prohibited in rooms with children under 5 years old:

  • Poultry, including embryology units, adult chickens and ducks, chicks, and ducklings
  • Amphibians
  • Reptiles
