Parks, Trails & Building Grounds

Parks, Trails & Building Grounds

Douglas County Parks, Trails and Building Grounds staff strive to serve as stewards for resource management by providing the design, development, maintenance, and patrol of all Douglas County local and regional parks and regional trail systems.  Visit our interactive maps.

Parks and trails are highly desired and sought by residents who use them for a variety of activities and events throughout the year.  In addition to the local and regional parks and trails, Douglas County has spaces for your four-legged friends to romp in off-leash, an archery range for public use and an archaeological preserve to tour.  With any highly utilized space, it is necessary for users to obey the rules and regulations, and the Field and Park Use Policy.  For information regarding plans for the future, please visit the Parks, Trails and Open Space Master Plan (PTOS).

The Parks, Trails and Building Grounds Advisory Board advises and makes recommendations to the Douglas County Board of Commissioners regarding disbursement of funds from the Open Space Land, Trails and Parks Sales Tax Fund.

Funding for Parks, Trails and Open Space

Local and regional park amenities are funded, in part, by a one-sixth of a cent Parks, Trails and Open Space Sales and Use Tax. An annual budget utilizing property taxes from the General Fund are appropriated for the construction, operation, and maintenance of regional parks and trails, as well as the purchase of capital equipment. Proceeds from the Colorado Lottery are placed into the Conservation Trust Fund and are dispersed quarterly to the County for regional parks and trails construction.
