Project Update

Updated January 8, 2026:

100-Day Closure of County Line Road

The 100-Day Closure of County Line Road began on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026. County Line Road is fully closed for approximately 100 days between Clarkson Street and the U-Haul business access. This closure is required for crews to safely import, move and place large quantities of dirt, equal to filling 40,000 washing machines, at Lee Gulch. The fill operations, which are a key component of the widening and reconstruction work, will level out the roadway by removing the dip at Lee Gulch, improving drainage, driver line of sight and overall public safety.

Detours and Access:
Businesses: Business access will remain open via County Line Road.

  • Use University Boulevard to reach businesses east of the closure.
  • Use Broadway to reach businesses west of the closure.

Residents: Residential access to Clarkson Street will be maintained via Dry Creek and County Line roads.

Commuters: For through trips on County Line Road, use C-470 between University Boulevard and Broadway to navigate around the closure.

Detour Map Detour map for the 100-day closure of County Line Road. Use C-470, University Boulevard, Broadway, Dry Creek Road, and County Line Road to access your destination.

Although crews will not work 24/7, the road cannot be reopened during off-hours due to significant earthwork and unsafe travel conditions during this phase.

Driveway Work at Phillips Avenue Continues – Crews continue driveway and sidewalk improvements along Phillips Avenue. Please note the following for this area:

  • Barriers will be installed along the shoulder to protect the work zone, and barrels will be used to direct traffic to one lane in each direction, providing more room in the work area. The right turn lane from Phillips onto County Line will be temporarily closed for the duration of this work.
  • Demolition of existing sidewalks began Wednesday, Dec. 17, with two concrete scheduled for the weeks of Jan. 5 and Jan. 12. Once poured, the concrete requires a minimum 7-day curing period. The driveway and sidewalk access will remain closed until the work is complete and the concrete has reached full strength.
  • The existing fence will remain in place until the new gate is ready for installation.

Safety Message

This is an active construction zone. Please drive posted speeds, watch for crews and equipment, and avoid distractions behind the wheel.

Winter is here! Make sure your car is winter-ready, give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination, allow for extra space between you and the car in front of you and keep a safety kit in your car for emergencies. For more information on winter preparedness, visit CDOT’s Winter Driving website

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue improving County Line Road. Before heading out, check your navigation app for real-time conditions and allow extra time to reach your destination.

Total Project Duration: About 24 months.

Description

Since 2019, Douglas County has worked with partners to advance the final design, acquire right-of-way and prepare utility relocation design for a major water line located within the project area. Douglas County is partnering with the Denver Regional Council of Governments, the City of Littleton and the City of Centennial to fund the project. The total construction cost is estimated to be approximately $30 million for budget planning purposes which includes contingency funds, construction costs and consultant engineering costs to provide project management, inspections, and material testing for the project.

This project will include an additional travel lane in each direction, a new traffic signal at the Clarkson Street/County Line Road intersection, a mill and overlay for the portion of the road within the City of Littleton located between Phillips Avenue and Broadway, as well as adding sidewalks. Construction started in September 2025.
