Project Update

Updated 4/8/25

Over 90 days, crews will upgrade portions of the current bridge and repair the pavement where the bridge meets the roadway. During this time, a temporary traffic signal and flaggers will direct alternating single-lane traffic.

Motorists should plan to make a full stop at the signal and wait for the green light prior to traveling through the work area. Flaggers will be present during the first few weeks to assist drivers. Speeds through the area will be reduced and delays could be up to 10 minutes.

Previously, we announced that motorists traveling westbound would not have through access to the Castle Pines and I-25 interchange during construction. Following feedback from our local partners and community, we found a solution to keep eastbound and westbound traffic open.

Description

The Hess Road over Access Road Bridge Improvements Project involves the rehabilitation of approximately 258 feet of bridge structure and roadway over an existing access road. Planned improvements include the removal of portions of the existing structure, asphalt milling, joint sealant replacement, expansion device installation, waterproofing membrane application, hot mix asphalt paving, concrete patching, erosion control measures, and traffic control operations, along with other associated work.

Construction is anticipated to begin in early April 2025, with project completion expected within 90 days of the start date.

The County also anticipates rehabilitation of the Hess Road over Wildlife Crossing Bridge Douhess-0.65 in 2026. This structure is located west of the Access Road Bridge and east of the I-25 and Castle Pines interchange. The same detour and construction phasing will be used for both projects.

Schedule

Work/closure hours

  • Active construction will take place Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • The signalized one-lane traffic will remain in place 24/7
