Project Update

Updated April 22, 2024

See “Schedule” section below for construction timeline updates.

Description

As part of the local agency roadway network, initially, (2023/2024), Dawson Trails Blvd. will be built from Crystal Valley Parkway (Territorial Road) to Tomah Road.  In the future, (2030), Dawson Trails Blvd. will be extended north from Crystal Valley Parkway to Plum Creek Parkway; and the timing of development on the west side of the BNSF railroad tracks dictates the timing of this segment.  View the West Frontage Road Relocation Plan by clicking here.

Douglas County and the Town of Castle Rock are planning to construct a new roadway which is referred to as Dawson Trails Boulevard that will be located on the west side of the BNSF Railroad tracks, with the Town’s segment beginning construction in the summer of 2023 and the County’s segment beginning construction in the summer of 2024.  Both southern segments are anticipated to be completed and open to traffic in the summer of 2025.  Completing the southern segments of Dawson Trails Blvd. needs to occur before the Crystal Valley Interchange can be completed and open to traffic.

The Town of Castle Rock and its developers are responsible to construct the segment of Dawson Trails Blvd. from its proposed Crystal Valley Interchange to the southern Town limits – that is also defined by the limits of the proposed Dawson Trails Development, which roughly coincides with the location of the Lowell property located along the existing West I-25 Frontage Road.  Douglas County is responsible for constructing the segment from the southern Town limits to Tomah Road / Bear Dance Road intersection.

Initially, the segment of the proposed new roadway within the Town limits will have one through lane in each direction; and at full buildout, the Town’s segment calls for two through lanes in each direction, raised medians with left turn lanes, bicycle lanes, and sidewalks.  The segment within the County will have one through lane in each direction and 5-wide multi-use paved shoulders and a 12-foot-wide painted median to provide access to the parcels located on the west of the railroad tracks.

Schedule

The County is finalizing a critical right-of-way acquisition that allows for moving forward with the project. Final construction documents are being completed with an anticipated construction start date in quarter 3 of 2024.
