Animal-borne diseases are more common during the summer months when animals and insects are more active and humans spend more time outdoors. To avoid becoming ill from animals, do not touch living or dead animals in the wild. Wearing appropriate clothing and insect repellent can prevent illness transmitted through insects. Drain sources of still water weekly to prevent increases in the mosquito population. If you encounter a dead animal on your property, dispose of it appropriately.
