Seniors’ Council meetings are held the first Thursday of each month from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in various locations throughout the county. All meetings are free and open to the public.

June 6 – Recognizing Signs of Abuse and How to Help
Speaker: Crisis Center staff
Location: Terra Bluffs, 8797 S. Chambers Rd., Parker, CO 80134
Description: Domestic violence and elder abuse occurs in all demographics. Presenters from the Crisis Center will help you to identify signs if someone you care about is experiencing abuse. They will also discuss tools to help empower those who are dealing with these difficult situations.

August 1 – Mental Health and Older Adults
Speaker: Jason Hopcus, President of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

Description: There is a growing awareness of how mental disorders affect older adults. Learn how to recognize common signs of mental disorders and how and where to seek help.
September 5 – Vaccine Recommendations for Older Adults
Speaker: Douglas County Health Department

Description: The Douglas County Health Department will share research and recommendations for older adults to stay healthy this fall and into the flu season.
October 3 – What to Know as Medicare Open Enrollment Begins
Speaker: Medicare Representative
Location: Douglas County Administrative Building (aka Douglas County Philip S. Miller Building), 100 Third St. in Castle Rock, CO 80104 in Conference Rooms A&B
Description: The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) from the Area Agency on Aging will provide an unbiased overview of the changes planned for the 2025 Medicare Open Enrollment Process. This session will help older adults be able to make an informed decision regarding your health care needs during open enrollment. For specific concerns or questions, please contact SHIP directly.
