What's New

Express Over the Counter Plan Review Process Temporarily Suspended

The Express Over the Counter Plan Review Process is being temporarily suspended. Until further notification, beginning November 1, all Building Permit applications will be reviewed by application submittal and the normal 7 - 10 day plan review process will be in place.

During this time period, Plans Exam Staff will not be available for walk in reviews. Please plan your projects accordingly, and thank you for your cooperation and understanding during this time.

EPA Lead-Safe Certification Program

Beginning April 22, 2010, contractors performing renovation projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes and child care facilities built before 1978 must be certified and follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Douglas County does not enforce these Federal rules, but information on compliance with these requirements can be found at www.epa.gov/lead/getleadsafe

Carbon Monoxide Detectors

For all open permits that are completed on or after July 1, 2009, Douglas County will be enforcing the "Lofgren and Johnson Families Carbon Monoxide Safety Act" (Colorado Revised Statute 38-45). This is a state law involving the installation of carbon monoxide detectors.

Douglas County Board of Appeals (Building)

The Douglas County Board of Appeals (Building) members are appointed by the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners to hear and decide appeals of orders, decisions, or determinations made by the building official about the application and interpretation of the building code. Members shall be qualified by experience and training to pass upon matters pertaining to building construction and shall not be employees of Douglas County.
