Board of County Commissioners

Meetings

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners believes in an open and transparent government. Douglas County conducts business in compliance with Colorado’s Open Meetings Law, is open to public review and welcomes diverse public discussion. When a majority of the Board of County Commissioners meet to conduct public business, the meeting is posted and open to the public. The Board has several meeting formats described below.

Business Meetings

These meetings are where decisions are made via formal motion or action by the Board. Business meetings are open to the public, posted online and broadcast via YouTube (watch live) and WebEx (watch live and participate in public comment).  These meetings occur regularly on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at 1:30 p.m.

Public Hearings

These meetings are specifically for presentations by applicants and formal action by the Board, often about land use issues. Public Hearings are open to the public, posted online and broadcast via YouTube (watch live) and WebEx (watch live and provide testimony).

Administrative Meetings

These meetings give the Board an opportunity to direct County staff between Business Meetings. Admin Meetings will be noticed to the public online and open to the public in-person.

Work Sessions

These meetings give the Board an opportunity to deeply study topics, ask questions, and get information and data from subject matter experts. Sometimes direction will be given to staffThese meetings will be noticed to the public online and open to the public in-person. Subject matter experts who need to attend remotely will be provided a Teams link directly.

Advanced Planning Huddles

These huddles give the Board an opportunity to provide day-to-day direction to staff regarding agenda-setting, schedule and communication tools. Because this is not related to policy making functions of the Board, these meetings are not posted and may be cancelled to accommodate other County work.

Live Town Halls

From time to time, the Board may host special Live Town Hall events to present on specific topics and take public questions and comments. Learn more on the Live Town Hall webpage.

Please Note: Members of the Board of County Commissioners may meet by chance, attend the same social events, discuss matters unrelated to public business, and provide day-to-day oversight and supervision to county employees. These are not meetings open to the public.
